인류는 오래전부터 벽을 세워 왔습니다. 인종, 민족, 문화, 종교, 사상 등에 따라 서로를 분리하고 배제하려는 욕망은 어느 시대에나 있었기 때문입니다. 이러한 벽은 오늘날에도 세계 곳곳에 남아 있습니다. 남북을 가로지르는 휴전선부터, 이스라엘의 서안 지구 분리 장벽까지 말입니다. 각종 규제나 정책 등 눈에 보이지 않는 벽까지 포함하면 셀 수 없어요.
하지만 문명의 역사는 우리에게 끊임없이 가르쳐 주었습니다. 서로 마주하고, 교류하며 사상, 지식, 생활양식을 교환할 때, 비로소 진보가 일어난다는 사실을요.
“함께 경험해요. 그리고 함께 깨달아요.”
종교 간의 갈등, 인종 간의 갈등, 민족 간의 갈등. 그리고 이에 따른 분리 정책, 이민 정책. 다소 어렵지만 중요한 문제를 우리 아이들에게 어떻게 전달해야 할까요? 어른들한테는 또 어떻게 새롭게 각인시켜야 할까요? 위와 같은 물음에 이 책은 답합니다. 어리석은 국왕과 실제 책을 가로지르는 벽을 통해 말입니다.
파란 나라의 국왕은 자신과 다르다는 이유만으로 이민자들을 내쫓고 벽을 세웁니다. 하지만 이내 깨닫게 되죠. 자신이 원하는 바를 모두 이루기 위해선 그들의 도움이 필요하다는 사실을요.
함께 벽을 허물어요. 그리고 함께 깨달아요. 우리가 세워야 할 것은 벽이 아닌 미래입니다.

지금 미국에선 무시무시한 일이 일어나고 있습니다. 반이민 정책과 같은 보이지 않는 벽과 더불어 세상에서 가장 긴 장벽이 실제로 세워지려 하고 있거든요. 미국과 멕시코 국경 사이에 말이에요. 더 무서운 사실은 상당수의 미국인이 이를 찬성하고 있다는 점입니다. 미국은 다양한 문화의 교류로 가장 큰 진보를 경험한 나라입니다. 그런 미국의 대통령이 이런 계획을 세우고 있다는 사실은 많은 이들을 당혹케 합니다.
그는 파란 나라의 국왕과 많이 닮았습니다. 시행하고자 하는 정책도 많이 닮았죠. 머잖아 그도 같은 깨달음을 얻게 될 겁니다.
부디 더 늦기 전에 아래의 메시지가 그분께 닿길 바랍니다. 나아가 그의 정책에 동조하는 많은 이들의 생각을 바꾸길 소망합니다.

Humankind have built walls for a long time. This was because the desire to separate and exclude one another depending on their race, ethnicity, culture, religion, idea, and etc. was present in every era. This wall still remains today around the world. From the cease-fire border dividing South and North Korea to the Israeli West Bank separation barrier. If we include intangible walls such as various regulations or policies, the numbers are uncountable.
However, the history of civilization has constantly gave us lessons. It has taught us that true progress occurs when we face and interact with each other, and exchange ideas, knowledge, and lifestyles.
“Let’s experience it together. And realize it together.”
Conflicts between religions, conflicts between races, conflicts between ethnicities. Separation policies and immigration policies according to these conflicts. How can we convey this difficult but important issue to our children? Also, how should we newly inform the adults? This book answers these questions through the foolish King and wall that actually separates the book.
The King of the Blue Nation exiles the immigrants and builds a wall just because they are different from him. But he soon realizes that in order to achieve what he wants, he needs the help of those people.

In the U.S., a horrible event is taking place. Along with the invisible wall such as the anti-immigrant policy, they are actually trying to build the world’s largest wall between the U.S. and Mexico’s border. A more terrifying fact is that most of the Americans are agreeing to this. The United States is a country that has experiences the greatest progress due to the exchange of various cultures. The fact that the United States’ President is planning this confuses many people.
He is similar in many ways to the Blue Nation’s King. The policies he wants to implement are similar, too. He will soon realize the same thing as the Blue Nation’s King.
We sincerely wish that the below message is conveyed to him before it is too late. Furthermore, we hope that the people who support his policies change their mind.
